Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some answers for frequently asked questions that will help prepare you for your art experience.
What should I wear? I provide you with a smock but there is a chance that art supplies could get on your clothes and it can be difficult to remove them from fabric. I recommend you wear clothes that are comfortable and that it is o.k. to get dirty.
What do I draw or paint? I like to leave the subject matter entirely up to you. If we are outdoors, you might work directly from the landscape in front you. You might bring a photo that you took or one you like from a book or magazine or postcard. You could work directly form your imagination. My #1 recommendation is that you keep it simple. The time goes by quickly.
How do I get my painting home? I will bring your oil painting back to my studio for about 2 weeks where it will hang to dry. I will then have it carefully packaged and shipped to you. The cost of shipping is included in the lesson fee.
How do I pay? I accept cash, checks or you can pay with credit card through PayPal on my website.
What ages do you paint with? From 7 years old to 107.
What if I can't draw a stick person? Ahhh - if I had a nickel for every person who asked that. My personal philosophy is that we are all innately artistic. Many of us stopped making art when we put down our crayons and markers. I will gently guide you through the process and help you reconnect with the artist within. Even if we do start with stick people - you will take away an understanding of basic drawing techniques.
What if I am already an artist? I have painted with people who are established artists. Usually they explain that they want to hire me for the convenience of having the supplies available to them without having to travel with them. I am all for it. Ultimately we will each share techniques and insights and expand our way of thinking and creating.
